San Jacinto College Head Softball Coach Kelly Saenz achieved a major milestone April 18, securing her 800th career win with a victory over Lamar State College-Port Arthur.
Saenz has been with San Jacinto College since 2004 and has been a driving force in the success of the softball program. Under her leadership, the team has made 7 NJCAA World Series appearances, won 5 Region XIV Championships, and claimed 4 Conference Championships.
"Coach Saenz continues to set the standard in collegiate softball with her unwavering commitment to her athletes, the game, and the San Jacinto College community,” said Kelsey Walters, Ravens Softball assistant coach.
Before coming to San Jacinto College, Saenz played professionally for the Smitty Midget girls division team in 1995 and 1996, leading that team to two of three consecutive Canadian championships.
Saenz began her collegiate coaching career with Frank Phillips College’s Lady Plainsmen in 2003. The 1998 Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year, she holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Eastern Kentucky University and a master’s in health, physical education, and recreation from the University of South Dakota.
Her impact goes far beyond wins. Saenz is a three-time inductee into the Manitoba Softball Hall of Fame, a member of the Softball Canada Hall of Fame, and has also been honored by her alma mater with induction into the Eastern Kentucky University Hall of Fame.
